Gillian Anderson Teases Rumors She Could Be the Next James Bond

Impact

In a Tumblr Q&A Monday, actress Gillian Anderson shared her favorite Adele song, what she ate for breakfast that morning and what her X-Files character, special agent Dana Scully, would do with partner and love interest Fox Mulder, played by David Duchovny, if they were trapped in a room together.

But what fans are latching onto most is Anderson's hint that she would be interested in playing the first female James Bond, an idea the actress teased when she tweeted out fan art of her face superimposed onto a Skyfall movie poster with the release date changed to November 2017:

When a Tumblr user asked Anderson how she felt about rumors that she could play the lead role in the 007 film franchise, she replied, "Well, it's not news, it's a fantasy. Someone made a fabulous poster and it started an intriguing conversation. Will it ever happen in the real world? More than probably not."

And when another user asked Anderson what her favorite rumor about herself is she maintained, "That I might be the next Bond."

Despite Anderson's insistence that the Bond gossip was nothing more than that — gossip — she still sent fans into a frenzy:

Actresses have been plugging the idea of a 007 movie with a female Bond for years.

In 2010, Angelina Jolie confirmed rumors she had been approached to be a Bond girl in an interview with Vanity Fair. However, she was not interested in playing Daniel Craig's love interest, arm piece or sidekick, she said.

"She asked if I wanted to play a Bond girl," recalled Jolie. "I said, 'No, I'm not comfortable with that, but I would like to play Bond.'"

Just this week, Priyanka Chopra, the lead on ABC's crime drama Quantico, shut down the same hearsay that she was being considered for a Bond girl part. "I get that all the time," she told Complex. "But fuck that — I wanna be Bond."

Be it Jolie, Chopra or Anderson, many are eager to see a woman take on the 007 role — largely for the sake of smashing stereotypes, but also to sip on some high quality male tears:

Ah... Refreshing.
