Blake Lively Married to Ryan Reynolds: The Top 10 Secret Celebrity Weddings

Culture

This past weekend down in South Carolina the Green Lantern and the Gossip Girl star got married, (that's Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively for those who aren't in the know). Apparently it was a lovely affair with Florence (minus the Machine) performing three songs, a beautiful white tent out on the Cotton Docks, and it was all a complete secret. So don't be upset you didn't get the invite, sometimes a celeb just has to get married surrounded by mystery and secrecy. Secrecy makes the love grow stronger, right?

Here is a list of other celebs who tied the knot without any fanfare. Sometimes the Soup can't cover your wedding

1. Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford

Carey Mulligan (An Education, Shame) married Marcus Mumford, of the band Mumford & Sons, in a super-secret ceremony. The twosome had only been dating for about five months when then they got married. The two were childhood pen pals! Is that not the cutest? So it’s no surprise that their wedding was held in a barn on a working farm in London (what a perfect Mumford & Sons move).

Update: The couple is still going strong after their April Wedding (pushing 5 months).

2. Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied

Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied (dancer/choreographer for Black Swan) caused quite the Oscar stir when they were spotted wearing rings. The next day, jeweler Jaime Wolf confirmed the happy couple was wearing wedding bands made of recycled platinum and conflict-free diamonds. They were married in an intimate setting with family and their 13-month old son Aleph.

Update: Married in August and still rolling.

3. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz

James Bond sealed the deal with a wedding appropriate of his secret spy status. Daniel Craig and actress Rachel Weisz met and fell in love while filming the Dream House a dark horror flick about a couple whose new home is haunted by the family who was murdered there. They tied the knot at a very small ceremony. Daniel's daughter Ella (18), Rachel's son Henry (4), and two close friends served as witnesses.

Update: 13 months and counting.

4. Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Jay-Z finally put a ring on it. This couple has made a lot of press out of a relationship even while refusing to talk it. It took six months for Beyoncé to even talk about her secret wedding in Essence magazine. The couple got matching ring finger tattoos of the Roman numeral IV, for both of their birthdays, and their wedding day (which was on the fourth of a month). Plus, Beyoncé had a $5 million 18-carat diamond wedding ring to put over hers. The wedding was small and intimate, Beyoncé said because, "It's been my day so many days already."

Update: Baby Blue Ivy Carter is precious and almost guarenteed to be cool.

5. David Schwimmer and Zoe Buckman

David Schwimmer got married in the summer of 2010 and didn't bother to tell us for months. David met his new wife, Zoe Buckman, in London when she was a waitress at the Cuckoo Club and she moved to L.A. to be with him. They conveniently announced their marriage the same day Courteney Cox announced her separation

Update: Two years strong (or nearly 4 Kim Kardashian weddings).

6. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz got married in secret in 2010, too. The best part was that Deepak Chopra conducted the ceremony. Also of note: Alicia was very, very pregnant at the time.

Update: They had a beautiful baby named Egypt

7. Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady

Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady got married in the winter of 2009 during a tiny ceremony in Santa Monica. Apparently, Gisele and her three dogs were all wearing Dolce & Gabbana and the ceremony was so secretive that the guests didn't know it was a wedding — many of them thought it was a christening! I wonder if Tom's ex, Bridget Moynahan, was under that impression when she arrived with Brady's son, John Edward Thomas Moynahan?

Update: This couple is winning.

8. Terrence Howard and Michelle Ghent

Iron Man co-star Terrence Howard was quietly married to Michelle Ghent in early 2010 but didn't spill the beans until much later. Unfortunately, the love didn't last.

Update: They are going through quite a nasty divorce

9. Jessica Alba and Cash Warren

In 2008, Jessica Alba and Cash Warren managed to have a hush-hush marriage in the Beverly Hills courthouse. There were no guests at the wedding aside from the courthouse staff that filed their marriage license paperwork. In fact, Alba's brother didn't find out until Us Weekly called him for comment.

Update: Still going strong and being adorable

10. Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney

Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney surprised a lot of people when they got married in 2005. The secret wedding took place on a hilltop on St. John in the Virgin Islands with 35 guests, just four months after meeting each other.

Update: They got divorced about a year later.
