Fall TV Premiere Schedule: Sons of Anarchy Season 5, The Voice, The New Normal and the 7 New Shows You Must Watch This Week

Culture

This week marks the beginning of my very favorite time of year: fall TV premiere season. No more summer re-runs, no more old episode of The Office; as of September all of your shows will be shiny and new. As you set your TiVo for the week, here are the seven series and season premieres that have gotta be on your week's radar.

1. The Voice

When's it on? Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm EST. This week it's also on on Wednesday ... because NBC is not gonna let one viewer left un-tapped. Season premiere is September 10.

What is it? That singing competition judged by the likes of Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green, and Christina Aguilera. It is a massive fan favorite though people seem be tuning in more for the judges than for the performances.

Why should I watch? Singing contests are always fun, and watching Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera pretend to like each other is amazing.

2. Katie

When's it on? Weekdays at 3 pm on ABC. Season premiere is September 10.

What is it? Everyone's favorite morning show host, Katie Couric, is branching into the daytime department. The show marks a "new beginning" for Couric and is a talk-show set-up in the Oprah and Ellen model.

Why should I watch? It'll be interesting to see if this show takes off and if Couric manages to blend news and take-show coziness. She also has a pretty interesting list of female guests including Chelsea Handler, Barbra Streisand, and E.L. James.

3. Go On

When's it on? Tuesdays at 9 pm on NBC. Season premiere is September 11.

What is it? Matthew Perry's new sit-com about a sports caster trying to move on after the loss of his wife.

Why should I watch? To see if Perry can finally break free of the Chandler Bing curse and carve out a new character.

4. The New Normal

When's it on? Tuesdays at 9:30 pm on NBC. Series premiere is September 11.

What is it? It's Ryan Murphy's (of Glee fame) new show, and if you're polling for the most buzzed about show of the year this is it. To add to that buzz it's already been banned on certain NBC affiliates. The premise is this; a successful gay couple in want of a baby, gets a surrogate to bring their dram to life. Calamity ensues.

Why should I watch? I don't know about you, but I want to see what all the hype is about. I also want to see if Ryan Murphy can hit another one out of the park. Oh, and Ellen Barkin is in it.

5. The X Factor

When's it on? Wednesdays at 8 pm EST. Season premiere is September 12.

What is it? Another singing contest but ith different judges; Demi Lovato and Britney Spears have now joined the judging table.

Why should I watch? Because everyone will be talking about it at the water cooler; and it's gonna be really fun to see what Britney has to say.

6. Glee

When's it on? Thursdsays at 9 pm EST. Season premiere is September 13.

What is it? If you don't know what Glee is, then I'm not sure what to tell you. But here are the Sparknotes: a glee club makes loser-dom seem cool. They fall in love, fall out of love, and make some pretty download-able music in the process.

Why should I watch? To see if the show can make that post high school transition. Kate Hudson will also be there which is pretty rad. Oh, and we've gotta see what happens with Finchel ... obvi.

When's it on? Tuesdays at 10 pm EST. Season premiere is September 11.

What is it? An outlaw motorcycle club tears around California. The whole premise is actually pretty heady in that it's based on Hamlet ... it's also the highest rated show that FX has ever had.

Why should I watch? Were the words "outlaw motorcycle club" not enough for you?
