Boston Herald Confuses Cesar Chávez's Deceased Widow With Civil Rights Icon Dolores Huerta

Impact

The Boston Herald got caught slipping Tuesday when they tweeted about the death of Helen Fabela Chávez, wife of civil rights activist Cesar Chávez.

The problem? They didn't use a picture of Chávez and his wife at all. Pictured below is civil rights activists Dolores Huerta, standing to the right of actor Edward James Olmos:

Twitter

"Cesar Chávez's Widow Dies in California at 88," the tweet announced with the photo above.

Twitter users were quick to let the Herald's social media team know they'd committed a crime of mistaken identity.

"You look ridiculous getting this wrong," one wrote.

It only gets worse from there:

Turns out much of the internet is also on some craziness. When you Google Helen Chávez's name, the top hit, as of 5:20 pm Tuesday, was a photo of Honduran American actress America Ferrera.

Google

The whole ordeal is especially ironic considering Ferrera spoke out against people confusing Latinos for one another at the 2016 Golden Globes Awards.

She was inspired to do so when presenters previously confused her with Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez.

Oh, and for the record, here is a picture of Helen Chávez:

The lesson: Do better, everybody.
