Man Initially Named As Dallas Police Shooting Suspect Surrendered Gun to Police

Impact

The Dallas Police Department put out a call for the public's help in locating one of the people suspected of shooting 12 police officers and 2 civilians during a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest in downtown Dallas Thursday night. Initial reports which signaled a man seen wearing a camouflage shirt and holding a rifle was a suspect in the shooting appear to have identified a man unconnected with the gunfire.

According to WFAA's Mike Leslie, that man has since turned his firearm into authorities, and barring any subsequent evidence obtained by authorities, does not appear to have been one of the gunmen.

Video of the initial chaos uploaded to Twitter shows the man marching peacefully among protesters when shots first broke out.

Dallas Police previously said the person of interest had turned himself over to authorities:

According to the Associated Press, authorities were able to take a separate suspect into custody in the early hours of Friday, in addition to the man who voluntarily surrendered.
