'Pokémon Go' Tips: How to Find Rare Pokémon With High CP Without Going Too Far From Home

Impact

The Pokémon Go craze has officially swept the nation — everyone and their mother is glued to their phone screens trying to find and catch 'em all. But if you've been playing for a little while, you may be wondering how to stop finding so many Zubats and start tracking down rarer Pokémon with high Combat Power, or CP, without having to travel too far.

Here are some simple tips you can start using to help find better Pokémon:

Use Lures and Incense: Every player starts with some incense, which you can use to attract Pokémon straight to you. This is a great tool early in the game, but you can keep buying and using it to attract wild Pokémon straight toward you. You'll likely see a lot of the same ones that already live in your neighborhood, but you may also occasionally attract some rarer Pokémon that you haven't seen before.

The same is true of setting lures at nearby Pokéstops (or showing up when someone else sets a lure) and this way you not only get a chance at finding a rare Pokémon, you also stand a chance at making a new friend.

Use Razz berries: Razz berries are an underrated tool in the world of Pokémon Go. If you feed one to a wild Pokémon just before catching it, you'll have a greater chance of catching it on your throw.

Mess with the game: If you're willing to break the rules, there are some ways you can use the Dark Arts to your advantage so you can comfortably catch Pokémon without getting off the couch. GPS spoofing is a way to trick your game into thinking you're moving without actually going anywhere — find out how to do it here. But this only works on Android devices, so if you have an iPhone, better luck next time.
