Ariel Winter Was Body Shamed Yet Again — But This Time, for Her Tattoos

Impact

Ariel Winter is the queen of clapping back at body-shaming trolls. She's had to do it again and again and again. But, at 18 years old, this is a royal title that the actress shouldn't need to have.

Just a few weeks ago, the Modern Family star took to Twitter to address those taunting her for a graduation party dress she wore with a cutout in the middle. "That dress is a bit too booby," said a commenter. Another: "You seriously wore that in front of family?"

"Dear sorry body shamers, I looked HOT in that dress," she responded to the unwarranted opinions. "And if you hate it, don't buy it. But please get a hobby."

On Tuesday, while guest-hosting CBS' The Talk, Winter further addressed critics, this time mentioning that she was also shamed for her tattoos.

"When I got my tattoos — I have five now — and every time I post about getting a tattoo, every single person on the face of the planet has something to say about it," she said, according to E! News. "[Like] 'you shouldn't be getting tattoos because you're ruining your body. How dare you destroy yourself even more? You were pretty and a nice person and now you're just trash.'"

Proof of such comments can be found across her Instagram page. For example, back in March, when she posted an image of herself getting new ink, people wrote things like "Trashy, way to make your body horrible looking" and "Way to ruin your body with horrible ink. You'll regret it soon."

Winter further explained: "I mean, people say everything on the face of the planet to me about everything I do. And it just really, it can destroy a person, and I also think it's disgusting what people spend their time on. You're sitting behind a computer, you don't have the guts to say it to my face, but you have the time and energy to shame and hurt somebody on the computer, and that just show[s] how little respect you have for other people and how people spend their time."

At least Winter is using these critiques as an excuse to spread body-positive sentiments to her followers.  "Embrace all that you are," she wrote on Twitter. "Don't let those outside voices become your inner voice. #MyChoice."
