Rihanna Jumps On, Then Rules Over, Her Fans in New "Goodnight Gotham" Video

Culture

Rihanna is literally sprinting to the top of the charts, as well as the center of her fans' hearts, in her latest music video. The video is for "Goodnight Gotham," a bonus track on Anti, and lasts just over one minute.

The video shows Rihanna with her squad in Paris, driving near the Eiffel Tower as fans snap photos and gather nearby. Suddenly, RiRi steps out of her black Escalade and begins running toward her fans as a herd of them flocks toward her. The celebration is captured by Rihanna's videographers, standing nearby with beaming lights as the pop star is hoisted above the crowd, taking selfies and hugging fans.

It's certainly less violent than the videos for "Bitch Better Have My Money" or "Needed Me," and less choreographed and synchronized than "We Found Love." Instead, the video depicts Rihanna as an artist basking in her unprecedented success — one who isn't above doing so with the fans that catapulted her career.

She has good reason to feel good about that career, too; the Barbadian-bred hitmaker just tied Madonna for having 57 Billboard Hot 100 hits.
