‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel Release Date: Here’s When JK Rowling’s Follow-Up Hits Theaters

Culture

Harry Potter's back in the cultural spotlight after the blockbuster release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child over the weekend — and the wizarding world has more surprises in store for fans by the end of 2016. The Harry Potter spinoff movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will arrive in November, beginning a trilogy of film's starring Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne.

Already, too, we also know what's in store for the sequel. According to Variety, the Fantastic Beasts sequel is slated for a November 2018 release, with author J.K. Rowling penning the script. Moreover, the director of the final four Harry Potter films and the first film in the new franchise, David Yates, will helm the follow-up.

A statement from Warner Bros. says the sequel will move "deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt (Redmayne) and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances."

Considering the fervor surrounding the Cursed Child book, the West End play and the first Fantastic Beast film a few months away, it's a great time to be a wizard.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them arrives in U.S. theaters Nov. 18.
