Impact

The 2016 Olympics are imminent, which means women's soccer is back in the national spotlight, right where it belongs.

Sure, if 2012's London games are accepted as a reliable meter for Olympic sport popularity, the world will be watching archery, but with the U.S. women's soccer team, the reigning World Cup champs, as the favorite for gold, the USWNT bid for Olympic glory is bound to be worth your while.

The squad is stacked with goalkeeper Hope Solo, forwards Alex Morgan and Mallory Pugh and midfielders Carli Lloyd. According to team captain Lloyd, the ladies will not be going home empty-handed.

"I don't play the sport and compete to settle for anything less than gold," she told USA Today. "I know that sounds pretty bold, but that just really is what our team is about. I have been to two Olympics so far and I am going for a third gold medal. That's the plan."

Sports fans can watch the match on NBC's livestream (cable subscription required) where events at the 2016 Rio Olympics are viewable. What a time to be alive.
