What Would MLK Fight For Today?

This week marks the opening of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, in Washington, D.C. The opening corresponds with the 48th anniversary after King’s famous “I have a dream” speech, made just yards away at the Lincoln Memorial.

King is well known for his fight for civil rights, but he also dedicated his life to fighting against poverty and the Vietnam War. Indeed, the night before his assassination, King was striking for economic equality and social justice with a group of sanitation workers in Memphis, Tenn.

Over 40 years later, the American public itself remains divided over whether King’s dream has been fully realized, with a bare majority at 51% fully agreeing that the dream has become reality.

Which begs the question, if King were alive today, what would be his primary fight in America? What is the most important social, economic, and/or political issue MLK would be working to solve?
