Comedy Central is canceling its Larry Wilmore-hosted late-night program, The Nightly Show. The show's final episode will air Thursday.

"Unfortunately, it hasn't connected with our audience in ways that we need it to, both in the linear channel and in terms of multi-platform outlets and with shareable content and on social platforms as well," Comedy Central president Kent Alterman told the Hollywood Reporter.

Wilmore, who reportedly informed his staff of the decision Monday, shared his disappointment in a statement provided to the New York Times. "I'm also saddened and surprised we won't be covering this crazy election or 'The Unblackening' as we've coined it," his statement reads. "And keeping it 100, I guess I hadn't counted on 'The Unblackening' happening to my time slot as well."

Wilmore is one of only two late-night hosts of color. The other is his fellow Comedy Central host, Trevor Noah of The Daily Show. The Nightly Show will be replaced in its 11:30 p.m. Eastern time slot by Chris Hardwick's game show, @Midnight, until the network finds another replacement.
