Did Demi Lovato plagiarize "Stars"? Sleigh Bells sue singer for copyright infringement

Noise pop duo Sleigh Bells is suing Demi Lovato for copyright infringement over alleged similarities in her song "Stars" and one of the group's most recognizable tracks, "Infinity Guitars."

The suit, filed Monday in a California federal court, alleges the song Lovato and producers Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub made for her 2015 album have similarities that "transcend the realm of coincidence," Fader reported Tuesday.

Back in November, Sleigh Bells posted a passive aggressive tweet directed at Lovato shortly after her album release, blasting her for not asking permission for the alleged sampling of "Infinity Guitars" as well as another of their breakout singles, "Riot Rhythm."

"Demi Lovato flattered you guys sampled 'Infinity Guitars' & 'Riot Rhythm' for 'Stars,' but we were not contacted. Gotta clear those," the tweet reads. The tweet made headlines, though it wasn't immediately clear whether the group would be taking action against Lovato.

Parts of Lovato's track appear to have an uncanny resemblance to the group's tracks, specifically the drum patterns in "Infinity Guitars" and Lovato's song. Lovato has yet to release a statement on the lawsuit.
