James Corden would like to see more "heavy people" fall in love in rom-coms

If aliens landed on Earth today, laser-beamed themselves into a movie theater and checked out the latest hit romantic comedy, they would probably leave their seats with the impression that falling in love is only for skinny humans.

James Corden — lovable Late Late Show host and every celeb's favorite duet partner — would kindly like to know WTF is up with that.

"I could never understand, when I watch romantic comedies, the notion that for some reason unattractive or heavy people don't fall in love," he said in a new interview with Rolling Stone. "If they do, it's in some odd, kooky, roundabout way — and it's not. It's exactly the same. I met my wife; she barely owned a television and worked for Save the Children. We sat down one night and we fell in love and that was it."

He's got a point. Try to think of an example of a mainstream romantic comedy in which the leading couple is not super-hot and/or super in shape. While we have the occasional dash of body diversity in rom-com stars like Melissa McCarthy or Rebel Wilson (or, like, Seth Rogen), the fact remains that their roles typically fall into that "kooky" category of comedy that Corden describes.

wise-cracking bridesmaid with explosive diarrhea is not exactly someone you imagine at the center of one of those earnest "sit down one night and fall in love" storylines that Corden speaks of.

Until Hollywood gets its shit together on this front, here is an interim solution: Ditch rom-coms altogether and just watch Carpool Karaoke clips on YouTube instead. You'll probably laugh more at those, anyway.
