Donald Glover responds to rumors he'll play Lando Calrissian in Han Solo spinoff film

If the rumors that a young Lando Calrissian is set to appear in Star Wars' upcoming Han Solo spin-off film are true, that actor-to-be has some suave shoes to fill in the role made iconic by Billy Dee Williams. Donald Glover just might be up to the task — even though it's still only rumored that the actor is the frontrunner for the role.

Glover, speaking with Time on Thursday, addressed the speculation first reported by Birth.Movies.Death that Disney is considering his name for the part. Sadly, per Glover, they're just that: rumors. However, he does love the Star Wars franchise — so that's something to stir the pot.

"My dad was a big fan," Glover said. "I had all the toys when I was little. I had a Darth Vader with the lightsaber he has. It was cool. It's a dynasty. It's like the bible. I love that franchise."

Unfortunately, there's still little to no information about Disney's planned Han Solo spin-off. It doesn't have a title, and aside from Alden Ehrenreich's casting as the titular Corellian smuggler, no one else has been confirmed for the film. But as Solo's longtime friend and the original owner of the Millennium Falcon, it's not a stretch to presume Calrissian will appear.

Moreover, given that Lando brought a touch of levity to the original Star Wars trilogy, Glover and his comedic background would make him a smart choice if Disney decides to go that route.
