'RuPaul's Drag Race' contestants pay homage to iconic celebrity looks at 2016 VMAs

Impact

Some of the most iconic fashion moments over the past few decades were made during the MTV Video Music Awards. As a reminder, a bunch of the contestants from the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars repurposed those looks for this year's red carpet.

And, oh boy, did they slay.

Coco Montrese dressed as Lil Kim from the 1999 VMAs, Alyssa Edwards wore Katy Perry's 2014 copy of Britney Spears' 2001 denim getup, Roxxxy Andrews replicated Kim Kardashian West's Balmain mini from 2014, Phi Phi O'Hara chose Lady Gaga's unforgettable 2010 meat dress, Ginger Minj went as Madonna at her 1984 "Like A Virgin" performance, Katya described herself as "Sia's communist mother" and is wearing a 1995 Vivienne Tam dress, Detox went as Madonna from one of her performances at the 1990 VMA's, Tatianna went in Aaliyah's 2000 animal print gown and Alaska chose Britney Spears' classic "I'm A Slave 4 U" snake performance getup of 2001.

It's safe to say that many on Twitter thought the cast stole the show even before it began.

Or, more importantly, as one Twitter user pointed out, "We need to stop and appreciate the influence of @RuPaul - Two years in a row drag queens are featured on the #VMAs and not as a joke."
