Jerry Rice goes full "all lives matter" on Colin Kaepernick, and Twitter isn't here for it

Impact

If you hadn't heard by now, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick protested police brutality and structural racism in America by sitting down during the national anthem at a preseason game on Friday. And he plans to continue protesting until he sees change.

While some people applauded Kaepernick, the baller has had some vocal critics, including former 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice, who tweeted a message for Kaepernick on Monday night.

"All lives matter," Rice tweeted. "So much going on in this world today. Can we all just get along! Colin, I respect your stance but don't disrespect the flag."

Rice's tweet not only makes the ultimate mistake of embracing the racist, conversation-misdirecting "all lives matter," but he also takes the rest of his tweet from another racially charged incident.

Rice's "Can we all just get along!" could just be a general plea, but Rice may be quoting Rodney King, a taxi driver who was beaten by the Los Angeles Police Department in 1991. Riots broke out in 1992 after four officers were acquitted of charges against King.

King appeared on TV during the riots asking "Can we all get along?"

That Rice is quoting someone who was beaten by police to admonish someone who is protesting police brutality through the peaceful act of sitting down during the national anthem is nothing short of irony.

Since his late night finger wag, Rice's Twitter mentions have been a mess.

Outside of his mentions, Twitter isn't letting him off the hook, either.

Wagging a finger while saying "all lives matter" means Rice better be prepared to have some fingers pointing back. Hopefully, Rice will think twice before using Twitter to say some nonsense again.
