Startling Tasty-style video highlights America's massive hunger problem in just 30 seconds

Clean plate club just took on a whole new meaning. 

In honor of Hunger Action Month, meant to spread awareness about food insecurity in the U.S., Feeding America and the Ad Council have created a 30-second spot full of clean plates that were never eaten off of in the first place.

Empty plates mean empty stomachs, the video notes. And there are a whole lot of empty stomachs in the U.S. 

Roughly 48.1 million Americans lived in food-insecure households, meaning that affording food (or finding food) can be a struggle. That translates to almost one in seven Americans struggling with hunger, Feeding America states on its site.  One in five kids struggles with hunger, too, the Ad Council noted. 

So accordingly, there are no cheese pulls or runny yolks in this video. Like a Buzzfeed Tasty video, the Feeding America spot reveals a birds-eye view of hands creating a recipe. But in this case, there are no food or ingredients to be seen, and it's pretty eerie.

"I've spent many days on the road this past year, visiting food banks, food pantries and meal programs, and meeting people who are facing hunger," Diana Aviv, CEO of Feeding America, said in a press release. 

"It is always heartbreaking to meet a mother or father who fears that they will not be able to feed their children," Aviv said. "They know that their children cannot reach their full potential if they don't have enough to eat."
