The Neighbors ABC Show Review: Weirdest Show on Television

Culture

NBC and ABC Wednesday night seems to be entering into some weird territory. On Wednesday night, two new sitcoms will hit the airwaves, The Neighbors and Animal Practice. Animal Practice centers on the hilarity and hijinx taking place at a New York animal hospital. Neighbors involves a new family that moves into a New Jersey suburb entirely occupied by aliens.

The New York Times review put it all pretty perfectly, "There's only an hour on Wednesday night between the end of Animal Practice on NBC and the start of The Neighbors on ABC. That may not be enough time for you to recover from the brain cell loss the first one induced and prepare yourself for the even more severe brain cell loss the second will cause." Honestly, that description alone makes me pretty curious.

The preview for The Neighbors sets up a pretty wacko premise.

I will admit the athlete names for the alien family make me laugh, as does their 1950's idea of American life, but it looks like a bit that will get tired pretty quickly.

As for Animal Practice, this looks like one of the more useless programs to hit the airwaves in recent years. In the preview alone there's a cat attempting suicide, and I can't really deal with that. There also seems to be a monkey doctor wearing tiny monkey scrubs, which isn't the best comedic bag either.

The only hope is that the programs exceed expectations. We'll have to tune in to find out.

Animal Practice airs on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST. The Neighbors airs at 9:30 pm on ABC
