Jon Stewart Romney Dumb Comment: Stewart Thinks Romney Gets Dumber as Election Approaches, and He's Right

Culture

Comedy Central's Jon Stewart, from The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, summed up the feeling that millions of Americans of any political stripe are experiencing these days: disbelief to the notion that an incumbent president with a "stagnant economy and global unrest" is leading his challenger in almost every poll.

Introducing a new segment called "Barack Obama is the Luckiest Dude on the Planet," Stewart showed amazement that, "in an ordinary election involving a stagnant economy and global unrest a typical incumbent president would be in an enormous disadvantage. Unless [he is running against Mitt Romney]."

After featuring several clips of Romney contradicting his positions on health care and the economy (Romney was shown telling CBS 60 Minutes' Scott Pelley, that we already have a way to provide care for the uninsured "by picking them up with an ambulance" [and sending them to the emergency room], only to be shown on a different clip criticizing this very same method.

Stewart then added jokingly, “whatever his missteps are as a candidate, Barack Obama is surging in the polls because the closer we get to the election, the dumber Mitt Romney appears to be getting."

The fact that Mitt Romney, a Republican challenger who started with the advantage of an anemic recovery and the supposed expertise to turn things around in the economic front, is badly trailing Obama this late in the race is the elephant in the GOP room (no pun intended) that not many Republicans would speak about loudly, but over which some of them are already losing sleep. Is it too late for Willard to fire his campaign manager and start anew?
