Ahmad Khan Rahami wanted in connection to Chelsea bombing, NYPD confirms

Impact

New York City police have identified a person wanted in connection to explosion in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan Saturday night.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, was identified by NYPD officials Monday morning.

Rahami is a New Jersey resident and a naturalized U.S. citizen from Afghanistan, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on CNN Monday morning. De Blasio said Rahami "could be armed and dangerous."

Rahami may be driving a 2003 Blue Honda Civic bearing NJ registration D63EYB, according to New Jersey State Police.

In Elizabeth, New Jersey — Rahami's last known place of residence — five improvised explosive devices were found in a backpack near a train station early Monday morning.

Authorities have since connected Rahami to the device found near a Seaside Heights, New Jersey, charity run, the Associated Press reported.

Authorities are investigating a possible terror cell in New Jersey in connection to the incidents, CNN reported.

The pressure cooker device was detonated near 131 W. 23rd Street, injuring at least 29 people. Another similar device was found nearby.
