Free Museum Day: September 29 Free Entry to Museums Across the Country

Culture

Public service announcement. TGIF you guys. If you are in the market for weekend plans this Saturday September 29 is Museum Day Live! What is that you ask? It is a day sponsored by the Smithsonian magazine where you can get into museums across the country ... and all for free. Over 1400 museums across the U.S. are participating in Museum Day so odds are a museum near you will be opening its door.

The intiative is an annual event which democratizes art, giving communities access to art without having to worry about the cost. Smithsonian Museums, which are always free, are the model and tone setters for the event.

To see which museums are participating in your area click here. A quick scan of the New York area indicates that some NYC hot spots, the Brooklyn Museum for one, make the list. Heavy hitters like the MET, the Guggenheim, and the Whitney, will not be free. Museums were able to elect whether or not to particpate in the event.

To cash in on the free museum greatness, fill out the form and voila. A ticket for two.
