iPhone 7 Plus battery life: See how the latest phone compares to past models

Impact

The iPhone 7 Plus' battery is the longest-lasting, best battery in the iPhone's history, according to Apple. That's good news for consumers: Battery life is the number one reason people are upgrading to the latest device, according to a Bank of America Merrill Lynch survey

The folks over at TechRadar just put that to the test to determine which phone — the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus or iPhone 7 Plus — has the best battery life. Unsurprisingly, they died in the order they were released: The iPhone 6 Plus' battery died first, followed by the iPhone 6s Plus; the iPhone 7 Plus lasted the longest.

To perform the test, TechRadar set the brightness on each phone at the highest level, connected them all to the same Wi-Fi network, turned on Bluetooth and ran a website script to simulate web browsing for two hours. Then they played the game Real Racing 3 until each phone died. Sounds fun.

After the first hour of web browsing, the iPhone 7 plus had 75% battery, the iPhone 6s plus had 72% and the iPhone 6 Plus had 66%. After two hours, the 7 Plus was down to 52%, the 6s Plus was at 47% and the 6 Plus had dwindled to 37%.

In the end, the iPhone 6 Plus' battery lasted 3 hours and 34 minutes, the 6s Plus lasted 3 hours and 54 minutes and the 7 Plus lasted 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Of course, these numbers aren't really reflective of the phone's battery life under normal use. It will last a lot longer than 4 hours and 15 minutes if you're using your phone wisely
