Voter registration deadlines 2016 by state: Here’s a state-by-state rundown

Election Day is around the corner — are you registered to vote? Early voting has already started in several states, including Minnesota, South Dakota and Iowa. Voters in Ohio can begin casting their ballot for president on Oct. 12.  

Each state has different deadlines on when to register to vote and they vary by method.

If you live in Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Wyoming and Washington, D.C., you can register to vote in person on Nov. 8.  

Just over half of Americans voted in the 2012 presidential election, according to Pew Research Center. That figure was based on 129.1 million votes cast among an estimated voting-age population of just under 241 million people.
