Here's how much it would cost to build the Death Star in real life. It's a lot.

When the White House rejected a popular petition for the United States to construct the Death Star, many pointed to the impossibility of building such a planet-destroying weapon. (Plus, why would we even need it?) But another reason for eschewing the Death Star's construction is the cost of building it.

In anticipation of the Death Star's return to the Star Wars franchise in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the folks at Twizzle put together an infographic breaking down how much the Death Star's construction would cost: Does anyone have $22,452,000,000,000,000,000 lying around? 

Now, before you start to write a check, here's a caveat: This preposterous cost would still only cover the shell of the Death Star, made of steel, and wouldn't factor in its built-in weapons or its planet-destroying capabilities. The would-be Death Star Stormtroopers might need paychecks too. 

Perhaps the White House's cited estimate of $852 quadrillion dollars is more apt — but sadly, equally unrealistic.
