New James Bond Movie Theme Song: How Adele Song Let the Sky Fall Ranks Among Other Bond Girl Music

It was a poorly guarded secret that British singer Adele was the singer tied to the theme song to the new James Bond film Skyfall. The next installment in the James Bond franchise is due in theaters Nov. 9, but to help ease the wait snippets of Adele's song "leaked" onto the web early this week. The song is set for official release on the singer's site on Thursday, but audiences were given a taste of the track earlier than expected. 

Roger Friedman at Showbiz 411 says of the "Let the Sky Fall", "It recalls the best kind of Bond hits by female vocalists like Carly Simon, Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner, Sheena Easton, and Rita Coolidge. Unlike more recent failed efforts by Madonna, and by Alicia Keys and Jack White, the song is tremendously catchy with a real sense of mystery."

As we countdown 'til its full release, here are all 12 of the previous James Bond theme songs performed by women ... a different type of "Bond Girl." Of course, some of the best Bond songs have also come from male performers  – Paul McCartney "Live and Let Die" anyone? Also,  all of the early the John Barry themes  – but today's list is for the ladies. After listening to all these songs, this really is an awesome trip through music history.
