This is the flying car that could light the 2020 Tokyo Olympics torch

Lighting the Olympic torch by foot? LOL, cute.

An engineering group is racing time to create a flying car to light the Olympic cauldron during the 2020 games in Tokyo, according to a local publication

Asahi Shimbun

The flying car in question will reportedly be able to take off and land vertically, ZDNet reported, and will be 2.9 meters long and 1.3 meters wide, or about 9.5 feet by 4.3 feet. It will be equipped with a single-seater electric tricycle and two propellers at each of the vehicle's four corners, according the Asahi Shimbun

The team behind the car, Cart!vator, was formed in 2012 to "provide a dream for the next generation," Asahi Shimbun reported. Cart!vator sees potential for future commercialization of the vehicle.

The 2020 Tokyo games is primed to be the most futuristic Olympics yet. Reports point to a robot village, manmade meteor showers and 5G wireless networks, to name a few.

But don't get your hopes up for a Jetsons-themed Opening Ceremony just yet. The current flying car model can only fly at an altitude of 1 meter for up to 5 seconds, and the group needs to raise 30 million yen to meet its funding needs.

If not, there's always 2024.
