Erica Garner blasts Clinton campaign for way they talked about Garners in private

Impact

Erica Garner, whose father Eric Garner died in July 2014 after being placed in a chokehold by New York City Police Department Officer Daniel Pantaleo, ripped Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign this week over internal emails leaked and posted to WikiLeaks.

"I know we have Erica Garner issues but we don't want to mention Eric at all?" campaign spokesman Nick Merrill wrote in an email, regarding an op-ed on gun violence. "I can see her coming after us for leaving him out of the piece."

Another campaign staff member, Maya Harris, corrected him: "Eric Garner not included because not killed by gun violence."

Garner, who has been highly critical of Clinton and other officials like New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo following her father's death, pointed out the mistake and the implication that her father was only worth including for political expediency.

"It was obvious that the two white men that were on the email chain didn't even know that my dad wasn't shot," Garner told the Huffington Post. "It was clear that he was just a dead body for them to manipulate for their use. White liberals have been trying to cram racism into the box of gun violence for a while now."

She also criticized the Clinton campaign on Twitter:

Another leaked email showed John Podesta, Clinton's campaign manager, arguing Garner's death by police was justified.
