Tennessee Election Results Live: Trump takes Republican state over Clinton

Impact

Donald Trump took a majority of the vote in Tennessee, beating Hillary Clinton, according to early poll results

The state of 6.6 million people, which awards 11 electoral votes, has typically trended Republican. In the 1990s, when Tennessean Al Gore was vice president, the state went for Bill Clinton. Otherwise, the state has been Republican since 1980.

Polls showed Trump leading by low double-digits in early October. But the small number of polls in the state made it difficult to predict how Trump would perform in Tennessee. Sen. Bob Corker, a Republican from Tennessee, was under consideration to be Trump's vice president and has remained a supporter of the Republican presidential nominee throughout his campaign controversies.
