Who won California? Clinton wins largest trove of electoral votes.

Impact

Hillary Clinton has beat Donald Trump in America's most populous state, the Associated Press reported at 11 p.m. Eastern.

California has been a reliable Democratic stronghold since Bill Clinton turned it blue in 1992. Democratic margins of victory in the state have grown since then, with Barack Obama notching a 23-point victory in 2012. The state's 55 electoral votes are critical for Democratic presidential candidates, placing them a fifth of the way to the White House with victory one state.

Heading into Election Day, polls projected a Clinton win of at least 20 points.
