Indiana Election Results: Trump beats Clinton in Pence's home state

Impact

Donald Trump has won Indiana, the home state of his vice presidential candidate. The Associated Press called the Hoosier State for the Republican at 6:59 p.m. Indiana narrowly went for Barack Obama in 2008 but flipped back to Republicans in 2012 and stayed that way this year.

Polls heading into Election Day predicted Trump's win. Trump's pick of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who is unpopular at home, for vice president was seen as a nod to traditional conservative and evangelical voters.

Between 1940 and 2012, the state only voted for a Democratic presidential candidate twice. Indiana has 11 electoral votes.
