Prince Harry is dating a black woman and perfectly calling out racist attacks against her

Sorry, ladies. Prince Harry of Wales is now off the market.

The British royal stud confirmed on Tuesday that he is dating American actress Meghan Markle, the daughter of a white father and an African-American mother, who spoke publicly about her biracial identity in an op-ed for Elle. In a compelling and unprecedented statement, he denounced the British press' abuse and harassment of his girlfriend.

In the letter, Prince Harry mentioned how he learned to develop a thick skin from the press due to their frequent interest in his private life. However, he also said that "a line has been crossed" in the coverage of Markle.

"Some of this has been very public — the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments," the statement reads.

Members of the press have attempted to gain illegal entry into Markle's home in Toronto and some news organizations have attempted to bribe her ex-boyfriend for scandalous details, the statement reads. It also condemns the "racial undertones" evident in several British newspaper columns, and the blatant misogynistic and racist harassment Markle has received on social media.

Prince Harry's letter seemed to have been prompted by the Sun's front-page story on Markle, the Guardian reported. The headline read "Harry's girlfriend on PornHub," which is in reference to clips of Markle from her TV series Suits that were uploaded by a PornHub user.

In the Daily Mail, British columnist Rachel Johnson referred to Markle's "exotic" DNA in an op-ed published on Saturday.

"Genetically, she is blessed," Johnson wrote. "If there is issue from her alleged union with Prince Harry, the Windsors will thicken their watery, thin blue blood and Spencer pale skin and ginger hair with some rich and exotic DNA."

Another Daily Mail piece is outright racist with its headline: "Harry's girl is (almost) straight outta Compton: Gang-scarred home of her mother revealed — so will he be dropping by for tea?"

Markle's treatment by the British press proves that even in England, one of the most multicultural countries in the world, racism is still alive and well — and social media users were quick to point that out.

"He has asked for this statement to be issued in the hopes that those in the press who have been driving this story can pause and reflect before any damage is done," the letter ends. "He knows that it is unusual to issue a statement like this, but hopes that fair-minded people will understand why he has felt it necessary to speak publicly."
