What time will the president be announced? When to expect the election to be over

It's the question on nearly everyone's minds: When will we know who won the election and we can call this thing over? The U.S. is just hours away from learning who will be the next president: Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, or Republican nominee Donald Trump. But what time will the president be announced, exactly? 

To get an idea of what time will the president be announced, here's a look at when the 2012 election was called. 

In 2012, the election was called in President Barack Obama's favor just after 11 p.m. Eastern.

According to AdWeek, these are the times that the major television news networks called the 2012 election:

NBC/MSNBC – 11:12 p.m. Eastern

CBS – 11:15 p.m. Eastern

Fox News – 11:17 p.m. Eastern 

CNN – 11:18 p.m. Eastern 

ABC – 11:25 p.m. Eastern 

Calling the election hangs largely on a handful of swing states, where the race between Clinton and Trump is tight. A key state to watch is the battleground state of Florida. Polls there close at 7 p.m. Eastern. North Carolina polls close at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

Calling the race is one thing; accepting the results is another. 

Trump has consistently said that the presidential election is "rigged" and has not indicated he would concede should Clinton win. Trump called into Fox News on Election Day and was asked if he would concede the election if he loses.

"We'll see. Who knows? We'll see," Trump said. "We're going to see how things play out today. Hopefully they'll play out well. Hopefully we'll win... Hopefully everything's going to be on the straight and up."
