'A Charlie Brown Christmas': When and where to watch the 1965 holiday classic

Culture

Kick off the month of December with A Charlie Brown Christmas. The 1965 holiday classic is airing on ABC on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. Eastern.

The special Christmas episode finds the Peanuts gang participating in a holiday pageant. But not everyone is full of joy with the holiday approaching. Charlie Brown grows upset over the "overwhelming materialism that he sees everywhere during the Christmas season." Lucy attempts to get Charlie Brown out of his Grinch-like mood by getting him involved in the pageant. When that fails, it's up to Linus to help Charlie Brown "learn the real meaning of Christmas."

A Charlie Brown Christmas is part of ABC's Home for the Holidays programming event. The network will be airing other specials throughout the month of December, including two other classics based on the cartoons by Charles M. Schulz. I want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown! will air at 8 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, Dec. 17. Happy New Year, Charlie Brown will air at 8 p.m. Eastern on Monday, Dec. 26.
