Two juveniles arrested in connection to Gatlinburg, Tennessee wildfires

Impact

According to CNN, two juveniles are facing aggravated arson charges for the deadly wildfires that ravaged Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in late November. The fires claimed the lives of 14 people and injured 134, in addition to damaging and destroying over 1,600 structures in the area.

An earlier report from CNN described the fires as beginning in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and "rapidly spreading" to adjacent towns, spurred on by high winds, dry foliage and fallen power lines.

"Everything was like a perfect storm," Cassius Cash, superintendent of the park where the fires originated, told a CNN affiliate WATE at the time.

Fourteenth District Attorney General James Dunn said Wednesday that he is considering additional charges for the two juveniles, whose name and ages have not yet been made public. The two may also be transferred from juvenile to adult criminal court.
