Valerie Fairman, a reality TV star who appeared on season two of MTV's 16 and Pregnant, has died at the age of 23.

MTV confirmed Fairman's passing in a statement Thursday morning:

We are saddened by the news of Valerie Fairman's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.

The Pennsylvania-born mom became pregnant with her now-7-year-old daughter, Nevaeh Lynn Fairman, during her sophomore year of high school. Her relationship with her boyfriend Matt played out during her episode on the MTV series. Leading up to Fairman's death, the reality star reportedly struggled with drug abuse, resulting in numerous arrests

Co-stars from previous seasons of 16 and Pregnant and its subsequent spinoff, Teen Mom, have taken to social media to express their condolences. Janelle Evans, a cast member with her own history of addiction and run-ins with the law, responded to Fairman's passing on Twitter and Instagram:
