While it may be all sugarplums and mistletoe for Christmas, it's also the time of year for feats of strength, resisting consumerism and airing grievances on Twitter all in the name of Festivus — the creedless holiday born out of the now iconic 1997 episode of Seinfeld, "The Strike."

Invented by George's father, Frank Costanza, in a defiant effort to focus on something a little less traditional than holidays like Hanukkah and Christmas, Festivus celebrations revolve around an unadorned pole, virility and physical prowess. While the traditional holiday season is already underway, the fictional Festivus is here for the rest of us.
