7 Golden Globe nominated movies you can still catch in theaters

Culture

While a few awards shows recognizing the best of film in 2016 have come and gone, awards season truly starts at the Golden Globes on Jan. 8. Following the Globes will be be the Screen Actors Guild Awards and then, the biggest prizes in film: the Academy Awards. The Golden Globe nominations were announced several weeks ago, and on Sunday, when the winners are revealed, the Oscar race will become a bit clearer.

One reason the awards shows can be fun to watch is that you get to see how some of your favorite films perform. Do you agree with the critics? Did the academy get it right? Seriously, what is the Hollywood Foreign Press Association? These are just some the questions you may ask yourself while watching the several awards broadcasts.

Of course, you cannot fairly judge these films for yourself if you have not seen them. But don't fret, several of the top films nominated at the Golden Globes are still playing in theaters. Here are some of the best.

Editor's note: Some of these films are in limited release and will not be available in every location. Check your local theater.
