Tucker Carlson tapped to replace Megyn Kelly on Fox

Impact

Fox News has announced its replacement for Megyn Kelly: Tucker Carlson and his show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, will slide into the departing anchor's 9 p.m. time slot.

In its statement, the network also announced that America's Newsroom co-anchor Martha MacCallum will replace Carlson at 7 p.m. with her own show, which will chronicle President-elect Donald Trump's first 100 days in office.

"Viewers have overwhelmingly responded to the show and we look forward to him being a part of Fox News' powerful prime-time lineup," Executive Chairman of 21st Century Fox Rupert Murdoch said of Carlson in a press release, according to Forbes.

The move to elevate Carlson, whose show has been a boon to the network's ratings since it debuted in November, will mean less of the centrist anchoring that Kelly provided, and more of the conservative commentary Carlson is known for.

Carlson went viral in December after telling Teen Vogue's Lauren Duca to "stick to [writing about] thigh-high boots" during an interview about a piece she had written about Donald Trump.

"You're better at that," he told the writer, before cutting her mic.

While Carlson will now appear in a later time slot, Kelly is set to transition to daytime reporting. She confirmed the announcement on Tuesday that she plans to join NBC News, where she will host a daily show in addition to a magazine-style show on Sunday evenings.
