'La La Land' wins 2017 Golden Globe for best picture - musical or comedy

La La Land took home the top prize at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night. The film won best picture - musical or comedy, beating out 20th Century Women, Deadpool, Florence Foster Jenkins and Sing Street.

Best picture - musical or comedy is not the only award that the film walked away with. La La Land also won best original score - motion picture (Justin Hurwitz), best original song - motion picture ("City of Stars"), best performance by an actor in a motion picture - musical or comedy (Ryan Gosling), best screenplay - motion picture (Damien Chazelle), best director - motion picture (Damien Chazelle) and best performance by an actress in a motion picture - musical or comedy (Emma Stone). The movie also broke the record for most wins at the Golden Globes. The previous record holder was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) and Midnight Express (1978).

La La Land's Golden Globe win makes it a frontrunner at the upcoming Oscars. Nominees for the 2017 Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
