Dakota Johnson gets real about 'Fifty Shades Darker' sex scenes with Jamie Dornan

In a recent interview with Vogue, Dakota Johnson, who stars in Fifty Shades Darker, dished on a range of topics. She talked to writer Rob Haskell about everything from her obsession with mid-century houses to her unusual childhood to, well, yes, what everyone really wants to know about: the sex scenes in the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel.

"Jamie [Dornan] and I worked so incredibly closely for so long," Johnson revealed. "There were no inhibitions, and it was very honest, very trusting."

Of course, Johnson acknowledged it might not have ended up that way, and in that case, the results could have been disastrous.

"What if he had turned out to be a total dick?" she asked. "There's no makeup. There are no clothes to tell you a bit about the story. There's no jewelry to give you a clue about social status. So it becomes purely about the performance."

The movies, based on the novels by E.L. James, tells the story of innocent recent college graduate Anastasia Steele and kinky billionaire Christian Grey. Their relationship is nothing close to normal, but Johnson finds nothing shameful, disgusting or otherwise out of place about the BDSM lifestyle the two characters engage in. In fact, she has respect for it.

In the Vogue interview, she stated, "... what I admire is the bravery and the honesty of people who get down with it, who aren't afraid to say that they need something a bit more in order to get off. America is still so sexually oppressed. Isn't God's gift to humans the orgasm?"

Fans can catch Johnson and Dornan on screen as Anastasia and Christian when Fifty Shades Darker hits theaters on Feb. 10, 2017.
