'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' Netflix Reboot: Will it include the original cast?

Culture

Those reboots just keep on coming. Soon to join Fuller House, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and One Day at a Time in the Netflix family? According to Entertainment Weekly, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, the groundbreaking 2000s makeover show, will be rebooted and streamed on Netflix.

The original episodes, which aired on Bravo from 2003 to 2007, showed a team of gay experts  (known colloquially as the Fab 5) in the areas of grooming, food and wine, fashion, interior design and culture, giving makeovers to straight men desperately in need of their wisdom.

This time around, the conceit is the same, but according to a statement, EW reported, it's safe to say the current political climate is acting as an influence as well:

"In a time when America stands divided and the future seems uncertain, a team of five brave men will try to bring us closer together with laughter, heart, and just the right amount of moisturizer. The Emmy Award-winning 'Queer Eye' is back and ready to 'Make America Fabulous Again.' With a new Fab 5 and the show's toughest missions to date, Queer Eye moves from the Big Apple to turn the Red States pink — one makeover at a time."

Yes, you read that correctly, "a new Fab 5." According to EW, the reboot is casting for a new team of makeover experts. However, that doesn't mean we should rule out appearances by Carson Kressley (who you can catch on the latest season of The Celebrity Apprentice), Kyan Douglas, Jai Rodriguez, Ted Allen or Thom Filicia. EW also reported the "show's original cast might also have some involvement."

While the original cast may not be participating in the Netflix version of Queer Eye, it will have some familiar names behind the scenes. Series creator David Collins will produce the upcoming eight-episode reboot along with partners Michael Williams and Rob Eric, in association with ITV Entertainment's David Eilenberg, EW reported.
