American Horror Story TV Show Premiere: 7 Reasons to Watch Season 2 the Asylum

Culture

The first season of American Horror Story was really hit or miss with audiences. It focused on a severely haunted murder house — once you move in you can never move out. I had to record the show and watch it the next day in full sunlight.

Well what's scarier than a murder house with a basement full of death? Answer: AN INSANE ASYLUM.

This season American Horror Story takes us us into a Church-run haven for the criminally insane, Briarcliff. The institution is ruled with an iron fist by Sister Jude (Jessica Lange), a nun with a troubled past.  Inside this locked down facility, danger lurks around every corner.  From Nazis and serial killers, to mutants and aliens, no one is safe inside these walls.

Here are 7 reasons to get excited for the October 17 premiere

1. This isn't a house that's on the local murder tour. Setting Season 2 at an insane asylum has a built-in creepiness factor that raises the stakes. Unlike in Season 1, now hallucinations and delusions are a requirement, and not just sporadic character traits to explain away a total lack of logical reasoning!

2. The cast is exciting. Jessica Lange is starring as Sister Jude, Lange was also in season 1 as the terrifying neighbor Constance. She received an Emmy nod because she's not only good but she can be downright devilish. As she takes the lead this season get strapped in because you won't be able to look away. Sarah Paulson as “Lana Winters,” James Cromwell as “Dr. Arthur Arden,” Evan Peters as “Kit Walker,” Lily Rabe as “Sister Mary Eunice,” Lizzie Brocheré as “Grace,” Zachary Quinto as “Dr. Oliver Thredson,” and Joseph Fiennes as “Monsignor Timothy Howard.” Guest stars for the miniseries will include Frances Conroy, Chloe Sevigny, Adam Levine, and Mark Consuelos.

3. Ever changing season. Now that we all know that the format is a different story each season, the show is a light commitment. You don't have to love/adore each and every character for the long haul. Just enjoy the ones you're with.

4. You missed the first season? You caught the bug for this season? No worries, no catch up. Unlike Homeland, Lost, Heroes, Grey's Anatomy or any other show —we're all on the same page.

5. No Rubber Man. The sex scenes in season 1 were not ideal. Period. However, Adam Levine playing a honeymooner? I'm in.

6. Bloody Face (there's a character who wears his victim's skin as a mask) > Rubber Man

7. Unlike season 1, there are real political and social motivations behind some of the horrible things audiences will see take place at Briarcliff, including the '60s-appropriate sins of interracial and same-sex relationships.

So if you find yourself checked into Briarcliff, know you're not alone. It's going to be terrifyingly great.
