Bernie Sanders: "Of my many attributes, being a great dresser, a fashion maven, isn't one of them"

During Paris Menswear Fashion Week, Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia was able to permeate beyond style section fodder by creating a fall-winter 2017 menswear line in homage to Bernie Sanders.

The seemingly unexpected choice (unless one were to look to Gvasalia's long obsession with appropriating logos), included oversized suits, puffy bomber jackets and scarves, many of which were emblazoned with imitations of Sanders' campaign logo from the 2016 election.

The fashion world reacted favorably. The New York Times' Guy Trebay called it "jaunty" in his review; Business of Fashion identified it as "executive realness"; Women's Wear Daily called it a "slick, thought-provoking collection."

So what did Sanders think about this sartorial send-up? On Sunday, during a sit-down with CNN's Jake Tapper, the Vermont senator finally offered his opinion on the collection.

"Did you ever think you'd become a fashion icon?" Tapper asked, admitting the frivolity of his question in such a forum.

Sanders, letting out a belly laugh admitted, "No, not quite, Jake. I think, of my many attributes, being a great dresser, a fashion maven, isn't one of them."
