April the giraffe will raise her new calf on her own because patriarchy

Best wishes to new mom, April the giraffe. But the real question is: Oliver, where you at? 

On Saturday, Facebook and YouTube livestream superstar April the giraffe finally gave birth to her calf. The calf's father, Oliver, was not there for the birth.

According to WNBC, Oliver was attentive and cuddly to April during her pregnancy, but handlers had to separate the two for a while because he wanted to "roughhouse" with her while she was pregnant. 

"He does not want to play house — he wants to rough house," Animal Adventure Park wrote in Facebook post, according to QNBC. "That is natural behavior as males take no part in rearing their young, nor have a need for a female once she is pregnant. Sad but true."  

According to WLS in Chicago, Oliver is not a part of the raising the child. April will raise the calf for six to 10 months, perhaps longer, alone. 

Animal Adventure Park told WLS that male giraffes "only really care about two things —  fighting and the unmentionable."

So, while Oliver is out brawling and having more giraffes, April is at home watching her new child. When did she give birth, the 1950s? 

Giraffes are designated as "vulnerable" to extinction, so good job Oliver on furthering your species. We all salute your efforts. But please visit your calf.
