'Dancing With the Stars' 2017: Which 2 contestants were eliminated in week 7?

Culture

Movie night on Dancing With the Stars delivered some surprising and some not so surprising results.

This season's foray into film had a slightly more involved setup. Each couple danced to a specific movie genre: The couple with the highest overall score was automatically safe from elimination and received a pass from the dance-off that concluded the show. The couples with the next two highest scores were then allowed to choose the dance style and competing couple for their couple-on-couple dance-off. Make sense (sort of)?

At the end of three dance-offs, two couples were eliminated — Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan and Artem Chigvintsev, and former Bachelor Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd.

Despite earning competitive scores on Monday night and in week six, Kerrigan found herself facing elimination yet again, and unfortunately this time, her scores weren't enough to save her. Apparently Dancing With the Stars audiences aren't as big Olympic skater fans as they are Olympic gymnast fans.

Viall, on the other hand, showed significant improvement this week, earning a 34 out of 40 for his action-movie-style Argentine tango to David Guetta's "Dangerous." Ever the gentleman, Viall had only positive things to say about his experience on DWTS.

"It's just fun to get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself," Viall told Entertainment Tonight. "Certainly, I got nervous at times when I did that. But [I learned] to have fun anytime you take a risk and to just go for it, and that's kind of been the biggest takeaway for me and what I'll always remember about it."

That, and he looked super cool doing it.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, was the incomparable Normani Kordei and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy. Even with a grueling, international tour schedule and now a debilitating back injury, this 21-year-old singer can't be beat. She nailed her foreign film themed Argentine tango and scored the second 40 out of 40 of the season.

Kordei said on the show she was struggling with her back pain, and was taking a good amount of medication just to make it through the competition (you'd never know it watching that performance though). Nevertheless, she won't be throwing in the towel anytime soon. Kordei is here to win the mirrorball trophy, and, based on her performance thus far, she very well might.
