Angel Haze is a Mix Between Eminem, Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu

Culture

To my surprise, Angel Haze, actually has skill. But maybe I am late to the party on this one.

With 28,000 followers on Facebook, and over 27,000 followers on Twitter, her mix tape just came out last week. Admittedly, I was afraid after watching  "Sh*t I don't like (freestyle)" that she would be more ... ahem, stuff I don't like.

Though Angel Haze (Raykeea Wilson) says she doesn't like rap music, "It’s like most of the stuff is not genuine; it doesn’t come from a real place. You just sit there and you listen to people brag about million dollars, cars, and dumb sh*t that has no value in this world. Everything with rap is so monetary, no one focuses on the release that comes through music." She also adds that, "You need to pay homage to the artists who influenced you."She is clearly influenced by Eminem ("Cleaning out my Closet"), as well as Lauryn Hill ("Doo Wop (that thing)") and Erykah Badu ("Love of my life") in her song mixtape.

As she told the New York Times blog, "That’s the goal. I want to be an artist you cannot categorize at all. You can’t put a box around me. You can’t put anything around me."

Though I'm not sure if she is the next big thing, she is probably the most talented rapper you haven't yet heard about.
