'The Voice' Season 13: Jennifer Hudson to join Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton

As season 12 of The Voice enters the semifinals next week, there is already excitement building around a new coach who will be mentoring singers next season.

In the fall, Jennifer Hudson will sit in the big, red, swiveling coaches' chair. If anyone knows about TV singing competitions, it's Hudson. The Academy Award-winning actress rose to fame after competing in season three of American Idol, where she placed seventh.

Earlier this year, Hudson was a successful coach during her first season with The Voice U.K. Her contestant Mo Adeniran won the competition.

"Jennifer is an extraordinary vocal talent and one of the premier voices of our time," Paul Telegdy, NBC Entertainment alternative and reality group president, told the Hollywood Reporter. "She embodies the experience, expertise, positivity and sheer talent that The Voice stands for."

In addition to Hudson, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton are returning yet again, and Miley Cyrus will be back as well, rounding out the four coaches.

The current season of The Voice features Levine, Shelton, Alicia Keys and Gwen Stefani as coaches.

The Voice airs at 8 p.m. Eastern on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
