'The Flash' Season 3, Episode 22: Barry Allen needs Captain Cold's help to defeat Savitar

(Editor's Note: Spoiler's ahead for season three of The Flash.)

For much of The Flash's third season, Barry Allen and the rest of his team have been trying to answer two questions: "Who is Savitar?" and "How can he be defeated?" It took a long time, but Barry was finally able to learn the answer to the first question: He will eventually become Savitar

The knowledge that Savitar is really a future version of Barry makes solving the second problem all the more difficult. Everything the present Barry Allen does, becomes a memory for Savitar. Essentially, the evil speedster knows Team Flash's every move. This leads the team to try and erase Barry's ability to create new memories — let's just say it doesn't work well. But there is still hope.

Near the end of last week's episode, Tracy Brand succeeds in creating a device that can be used to trap Savitar in the Speed Force. What's the name of said device? The "Speed Force Bazooka," of course. The only problem is that the power needed for the device to work is more than can be found in the sun. Fortunately (or conveniently), it seems the government has some powerful alien tech in its possession.

Captain Cold returns

Should Team Flash be able to trap Savitar in the Speed Force before he kills Iris, it's possible that the villain will never be created — though with time travel, who really knows? Obviously, this means there are few lengths Barry would not go to find a way to power the Speed Force Bazooka (such an awesome name), including seeking the help of an enemy.

In season three's penultimate episode, Barry is going to have to steal the piece of alien tech from the government, and it looks like he won't be doing it alone. The Flash will turn to Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold, for help with committing the theft. And Barry will likely need all the help he can get, because the power source is being guarded by King Shark.

It is not entirely certain how Captain Cold will return (he is dead, after all), but it is likely that Barry will once again travel through time to solve his problems — he really never learns. It is also possible, though not as likely, that Barry calls upon the Legends for help, as the Waverider can be seen behind Snart in the promo below. Either way, fans are likely in store for an exciting team-up in a heist-themed episode of The Flash

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern on the CW.
