Where is Gypsy Rose Blanchard now? 'Mommy Dead and Dearest' gives an update.

Culture

HBO's documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest shines a light on the stunning story of Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard.

In June 2015, Gypsy Rose killed her mom, Dee Dee, and bragged about it in a Facebook post. The documentary takes a look at their lives as it explores the murder's salacious details.

Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen by proxy syndrome, a mental illness by which "a caregiver makes up or causes an illness or injury in a person under his or her care." Gypsy, the victim of Dee Dee's condition, allegedly plotted her mother's death over the years, eventually stabbing her with help from her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn.

Where is she now?

Gypsy Rose is currently in prison serving a 10-year sentence for killing her mother. In July 2016, she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a plea agreement with the prosecutor.

She'll be eligible for parole in 2024 when she turns 32, but for Gypsy Rose, prison life has been a blank slate. "I get to start over," she says in the documentary. "I'm newly born."
